Labette County girls’ track won the April 18 Columbus Invitational with 108 points. The Columbus meet featured 13 teams, all from southeast Kansas, including second-place Pittsburg (84 points), Coffeyville (78) and Parsons (58).

Labette County had a big improvement from last season’s meet. In 2022, the Grizzlies finished with 65 points and fourth.

The big LC mark came when senior Riley Bebb won the javelin with a throw of 124 feet, 3 inches, more than 14 feet better than her mark at this meet in ‘22. Last season, Bebb finished third in Class 4A with a 131-6 throw.

Colgan junior Lily Brown, an exceptional athlete in multi sports and first team all-state basketball the last two winters, was second in the 100-meter dash (13.3), second in the 200 (27.1), first in the 100 hurdles (15.8) and first in the 300 hurdles (47.8).

On the boys’ side, Coffeyville won with 107 points, 19 more than Parsons.

LC finished 2-3-4 in the 3,200-meter run with Emilie Zylstra, Amery Baker and Bethany Barger. Zylstra posted a time of 14 minutes, 36 seconds. Aubrey Boss was second in the 400 dash with 1:05.5. Anna Cantrell was second in the 1,600 with 5:58.

Bebb and freshman Kinsey Bebb were second and third in the shot put with 35-1.75 and 31-5, respectively.
