Columbus boys’ basketball is off to a 4-1 start. The Titans lost, 65-49, to Pittsburg Colgan in the season opener. Since then, Columbus has reeled off four straight victories: 65-54 versus Southeast Cherokee, 56-35 against St. Paul, 53-40 versus Cherryvale and a 46-45 win versus Riverton.
Last season, Columbus was 10-12 with a 3-2 start, including a loss to Riverton. In 2020-21, Columbus lost four times to Riverton, including 36-19 in the postseason. Columbus has three players, all juniors with double figures.
Junior Brett Hamilton has 12.2 points, 5.8 rebounds and two assists a contest. Junior Kolt Ungeheuer has 11.8 points, 5.6 rebounds, two assists and two steals per game. Junior Seth Stover has 11.6 points, 6.6 rebounds and 1.2 assists per contest.
Last year, Hamilton also delivered 12.2 points a game, which led Columbus. Ungeheuer and Stover have much improved after 6.7 and 5.6 points per contest.
