Craw-Kan Southeast Kansas Team of the Week: Crest girls’ cross country revives program, qualifies for state

By CONOR NICHOLL

Colony-Crest girls’ cross country did not have a team the last nine years. This fall, the Lancers have four girl runners, and it was enough to qualify for the 1A state cross country meet. The Lancers have junior Kyree Puckett and three freshmen: Aubrey Allen, Peyton Schmidt and Josie Walter.

Walter finished third in 21 minutes 2.95 seconds. Schmidt was sixth in 22:26.30, and Allen seventh in 22:33.29. Puckett took 30th at 25:59.12. The meet was hosted by Bishop Carroll at Brown Thrush Park. Elka and Ursula Billings helped restart the Lancer program, per the Iola Register.

Crest took fourth in a regional that Macksville won. The state meet is Saturday at the Wamego Country Club.
