Craw-Kan Southeast Kansas Team of the Week: Uniontown girls on course for another winning season

By CONOR NICHOLL

Uniontown graduated first team all-state selection Danielle Howard, a multi-season finalist for 2A Player of the Year. The Eagles went 19-5 last winter. Howard set school records for career points, steals and most 3s made in a game. In her first three years, Uniontown finished 11-0, 16-4 and 16-6.

This year, the Eagles opened 3-4, though are 4-1 since. Uniontown finished second at its Kenny Holt Memorial Tournament.

In the last two weeks, Uniontown defeated Oswego (37-23) on Jan. 16, and beat Fredonia, 44-38, on Jan. 19. That propelled Uniontown into the Kenny Holt championship game. The Eagles fell to Prairie View on Jan. 20.

However, Uniontown defeated Chetopa, 58-12, last Friday and beat Central Heights, 35-25, on the road Tuesday. Uniontown stands at 7-5 and has a strong opportunity for a winning record. The Eagles are currently seeded fourth in the Erie sub-state behind Colgan (12-0), Pleasanton (12-2), and Arma-Northeast (10-4).

At Kenny Holt, sophomore Reese Gorman and junior Rylee Coulter were both named to the all-tournament team. Colton Goddard and Coulter Powell earned similar honors for Uniontown boys.

Against Fredonia, Coulter finished with 14 points. Gorman added 10. Other key players are: senior Emiley Greenway, junior Brooklyn Dreisbach, sophomore Macy Schoenberger, sophomore Masen Powell, junior Addisyn Hall, freshman Ella Shelton and freshman Klara Stock.

In the Oswego victory, Gorman delivered 21 points. Gorman, a sophomore, was a member of the SIK All-Underrated Team as a freshman and has moved into a much bigger offensive role this year. Gorman started at second base for a much-improved Uniontown team last spring. In the fall, Gorman qualified for state golf in her first season of playing the sport.

Coulter, Gorman, Hall, Powell and Schoenberger also collected all-academic honors earlier this year.
