Craw-Kan Team of the Week: Prairie View Volleyball off to nice start

The Prairie View volleyball team enjoyed a solid start to its season last Saturday with a third-place finish at the Iola tournament. Overall, Prairie View is 4-1.

PV finished 3-0 in pool play. Prairie View defeated Waverly, 25-18, 25-5, in the season opener. Then, Prairie View added with two-set victories against Iola and Humboldt (twice) later in the day.

The Buffaloes lost to Rossville, 2-0, in the semifinals. Prairie View has historically struggled in volleyball, including a 6-20 mark last season.

Per MaxPreps, Prairie View graduated just one senior from last year. Key returners included: Kinley Baker, Janey Hough, Emma Chambers, Brooklynn Moore, Cayden Forrester, Julia Paisley, Braxton Stainbrook and Lauren Aust.

PV opened 2020 with a 1-3 mark, including splitting with Humboldt.

This year, Humboldt stands at 4-3, including a three-set win versus Pittsburg Colgan on Tuesday. The Cubs were 1-11 in its last 12 matches with Colgan. The last win came on Sept. 17, 2016. Colgan is ranked ninth in Class 2A.
