We will be featuring two athletes of the month this September, one this week and one later in September, with no August athlete of the month with the football season starting on September 1st. The first athlete of the month comes from Labette County HS with his performance in week one of the season in one of the biggest upsets for LCHS in recent memory.
Holtzman threw for 332 yards (5 passing TD, 1 rushing TD) on Friday night as the Grizzlies knocked off Towanda-Circle, 40-28, at home. Labette County trailed 14-0 early in the game and lost this game 50-0 last year. Holtzman threw for over 2,000 yards last seeing as the Grizzlies went 2-7. The Grizzlies are now a team to keep an eye on with their solid week one victory and Holtzman back for his third year at the position.
Labette County will travel to Parsons (1-0) this week to take on the Vikings in a county rival showdown. Labette Bank would like to congratulate Kendall on an outstanding week number one of the high school football season and wish him best of luck in 2023-2024.
