Labette Bank Southeast Kansas Athletes of the Month: Frontenac track opens with a solid first month

Frontenac track graduated top boys Easton King and Ty Gates, though has retooled, posted several strong finishes and a school record in April.

In 2021, Frontenac girls were 13th in 3A state in the 3,200 relay in 11:02.70. That group had three non-seniors: Maggie Payne, Gracie Jones and Lydia Pile. Those were the lone Raider girls that qualified for state track.

King took seventh in the 300 hurdles. King helped Frontenac take ninth in the 400 relay in 44.82. The Raiders were eighth in the 1,600 relay in 3:35.42. The 3,200 relay was 14th in 9:01.21. Gates finished ninth in the high jump at six feet. Frontenac scored three points at the state meet.

On April 21 at Fredonia, junior Kynlee Lakey cleared five feet and set a new Frontenac high jump school record. On April 12, Frontenac boys were second at the Riverton Relays, the Raiders third.

Freshman Alexa Reddick won the 3,200 meter run at the host Frontenac meet on April 7. Freshman Kayden Chance picked up the long jump title at the same meet. Jones won the 1,600. Both Raider teams took second at the Frontenac meet.

Frontenac went to the Girard meet on Friday.

At Girard, Jones was seventh in a deep 800 field in 2:40.66. Payne took fifth in the 1,600 with 6:13. Reddick was fifth in the 3200 with 14:35.97. Alexis Leonard finished third in the discus with 95-2.5.
